Factors associated with day-5 embryo culture outcomes in infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Main Article Content
Abstract
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 61 infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from July 2024 to February 2026. The study aimed to describe clinical and laboratory characteristics, day-5 embryo culture outcomes and selected associated factors. Primary infertility accounted for 73.8% of cases, and phenotype D was the most common phenotype, accounting for 50.8%. The mean BMI was 22.9 ± 3.0 kg/m². The median number of retrieved oocytes was 18.0. The mean number of normally fertilized two-pronuclear (2PN) zygotes was 15.1 ± 8.0, the mean number of good-quality day-5 blastocysts was 6.6 ± 5.2 and the proportion of good-quality day-5 blastocysts relative to the number of 2PN zygotes was 42.0 ± 26.8%. In the quasi-binomial regression model, BMI was inversely associated with the proportion of good-quality day-5 blastocysts relative to the number of 2PN zygotes after multivariable adjustment, with an OR of 0.83 (95% CI: 0.75 – 0.91; p < 0.001). These preliminary findings suggest that BMI may be associated with day-5 blastocyst culture outcomes in infertile women with PCOS.
