Abstract

Removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks are a commonly used rehabilitation solution for partially edentulous patients. The quality of prosthetic outcomes largely depends on the accuracy of the metal framework fabrication process. In recent years, fabrication methods have shifted from conventional casting techniques to digital technologies such as CAD/CAM, metal 3D printing, and hybrid workflows. This review aims to systematize current fabrication methods for RPD frameworks, while analyzing their mechanisms, advantages, limitations, and developmental trends based on international studies. The results indicate that digital fabrication methods, particularly selective laser melting (SLM), can achieve fit accuracy comparable to or superior to conventional casting, while reducing fabrication errors and improving reproducibility. However, high cost and technical requirements remain major barriers to widespread clinical implementation.
