The effectiveness of interventions in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding occupational accident prevention for rice farmers

Abstract

In 2024, a controlled community intervention study was conducted at Thai Binh province, involving 258 rice farmers in the intervention group and 252 rice farmers in the control group, to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices in preventing occupational accidents among rice farmers. The intervention included health communication and education activities over a 6-month period. Data were collected through interviews and processed using appropriate statistical tests. After the intervention, there was a statistically significant increase and difference between the intervention group and the control group in terms of scores and levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding occupational accident prevention among rice farmers. The results contribute evidence to the effectiveness of combining direct and indirect communication interventions in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding occupational accident prevention among rice farmers. The research findings also provide a scientific basis for developing and scaling up occupational safety programs in agriculture.
