Characteristics and outcomes of labor induction with dinoprostone in term pregnant women

Abstract

An observational, descriptive pre–post study was conducted among 178 pregnant women at ≥ 37 weeks of gestation who were indicated for labor induction with dinoprostone at Tien Giang Obstetrics Hospital from July 2025 to January 2026. The study aimed to describe maternal characteristics, evaluate labor induction outcomes and analyze selected factors associated with failed labor induction. The mean maternal age was 28.4 ± 5.9 years old, and 56.7% were nulliparous women. The total Bishop score before induction was mainly 1 point (54.5%) and 2 points (25.3%). The success rate of labor induction with dinoprostone was 81.5%, while uterine tachysystole occurred in 1.7% and fetal distress in 11.8%. In the multivariable logistic regression model, a total Bishop score < 3 and nulliparity were independently associated with failed labor induction. These findings indicate that dinoprostone achieved a relatively high success rate for labor induction and suggest the role of the initial Bishop score and parity history in predicting the response to dinoprostone.
