Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate site-specific palatal bone and soft-tissue thickness using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 50 CBCT scans of patients aged 18 – 50 years old. Palatal bone and soft-tissue thicknesses were measured at 32 sites using a standardized grid system. Data were presented as median values with interquartile ranges (Q1–Q3), and differences among measurement sites were analyzed using the Friedman test. Results: Palatal bone thickness was greatest in the anterior region near the midpalatal suture and gradually decreased posteriorly and laterally (p < 0.001). In contrast, palatal soft-tissue thickness increased from the anterior to the posterior region and slightly decreased from the central to the lateral sites (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Palatal bone and soft-tissue thicknesses vary significantly according to anatomical location. These findings may provide useful anatomical guidance for selecting appropriate sites for orthodontic mini-implant placement and palatal soft-tissue graft harvesting.
