Outcomes of video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL) for penile cancer treatment at Viet Duc University Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study was conducted on 65 patients with penile cancer at Viet Duc University Hospital from 2017 to 2025 to evaluate the outcomes of video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL). The mean age was 52.3 ± 11.5 (years old) with the majority at stage pT1 (58.5%). The mean operative time was 155.7 ± 55.0 (minutes). VEIL ensured oncological radicality, with a mean lymph node yield of 8.4 nodes on the right and 8.0 nodes on the left, which is comparable to open surgery reports in the literature. The advantage of this procedure is the minimization of skin flap complications, with infection and skin necrosis rates of 0%, while the incidence of seroma formation was 10.8%. Long-term follow-up revealed a cancer-specific survival rate of 95.3% and an overall survival rate of 93.9%. The study shows that VEIL is a safe and effective technique that minimizes complications while optimizing oncological outcomes.
