LDL-C target attainment and associated factors among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Thanh Hoa Endocrinology hospital in 2025

Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted among 162 outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Thanh Hoa Endocrinology Hospital in 2025 to determine the percentage of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) target attainment and associated factors. The overall LDL-C target attainment level was 50.6%, with the highest proportion observed in the moderate cardiovascular risk group (55.0%) and the lowest in the very high-risk group (35.0%). Moderate-intensity statins were the most commonly used statin regimen (45.1%), whereas high-intensity statin use remained limited (16.7%) and 34.0% of patients were not receiving statin therapy. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that male gender (aOR = 2.23; 95% CI: 1.03 – 4.84), good medication adherence (aOR = 3.09; 95% CI: 1.39 – 6.85), and HbA1c < 7% (aOR = 2.38; 95% CI: 1.01 – 5.63) were independently associated with LDL-C target attainment. These findings suggest that LDL-C control among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus remains suboptimal, particularly in those at high and very high cardiovascular risk.
