Nutritional status of traumatic brain injury patients at Viet Duc University Hospital in 2025

Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted at Viet Duc University Hospital 2025 to assess the postoperative nutritional status of 70 patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Results: The prevalence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) based on BMI was 7.1% on postoperative day 1 and 12.9% on postoperative day 7. According to GLIM criteria, the prevalence of malnutrition on postoperative day 1 and postoperative day 7 was 7.1% and 17.1%, respectively. Within the first postoperative week, the mean body weight decreased from 58.8 ± 7.8 kg to 57.7 ± 7.7 kg. Conclusion: Malnutrition prevalence in TBI patients increases during the first postoperative week. Periodic nutritional assessment and monitoring are essential for early detection and timely intervention in cases of malnutrition.
