Assessment of 10-year cardiovascular risk using the PREVENT-ASCVD score in patients with gout and comorbid diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Assessing the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease using the PREVENT-ASCVD score in gout patients, particularly those with comorbid diabetes, is of significant importance for optimizing treatment strategies. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive observational study on 68 patients diagnosed with gout according to the 2015 EULAR/ACR criteria and diabetes according to the 2023 ADA criteria, treated at the Musculoskeletal Center of Bach Mai Hospital from October 2025 to March 2026. Upon evaluating the 10-year cardiovascular risk using the PREVENT-ASCVD score, it was observed that 72.1% of the patients had intermediate and high cardiovascular risk. Factors associated with an increased cardiovascular risk included: advanced age, hypertension, reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), elevated HbA1c, prolonged duration of diabetes, and the number of acute gout attacks per year.
