Preliminary investigation of the association between the MYH9 rs3752462 polymorphism and the risk of chronic kidney disease in patients with hypertension

Abstract
This case-control study was conducted on 120 patients at Tay Ninh General Hospital from June 2025 to March 2026 to preliminarily investigate the association between the rs3752462 polymorphism of the MYH9 gene and the risk of chronic kidney disease in patients with hypertension. After adjustment for the duration since disease detection, the heterozygous CT genotype was associated with a higher risk of chronic kidney disease compared with the TT genotype (OR = 6.82; 95% CI: 1.48 - 31.28; p = 0.014). The CT group had a shorter duration since hypertension detection than the TT group, with median values of 6 years and 12 years, respectively, while the prevalence of renal impairment did not differ markedly. In addition, carriers of the CT genotype tended to be associated with reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate at the time of assessment (OR = 4.19; p = 0.048), but no corresponding increase in proteinuria was observed. The study findings provide preliminary evidence of an association between rs3752462 and chronic kidney disease in patients with hypertension; however, they should be interpreted with caution because of the limited sample size and the wide confidence intervals of the adjusted models.
