Characteristics of adjustment disorder with depressive reaction in patients with laryngeal cancer at K Tan Trieu hospital

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to characterize the clinical features of adjustment disorder with depressive reaction among inpatients with laryngeal cancer at K Tan Trieu Hospital. A total of 142 patients were enrolled, with a mean age of 60.95 ± 8.64 years old and a predominance of male patients (96.5%). The prevalence of adjustment disorder with depressive reaction was 36.6%. The most common stressors were cancer diagnosis (90.6%) and medical treatment (82.7%). Depressed mood was present in all patients (100%), followed by reduced energy (96.2%), insomnia (98.1%), and suicidal ideation (25.0%). The prevalence of adjustment disorder with depressive reaction was significantly higher in patients with stage III–IV disease compared to stage I–II (OR = 3.0; 95%CI: 1.4 – 6.3; p = 0.003) and in those currently undergoing treatment or experiencing recurrence compared to post-treatment patients (p = 0.007).
