Clinical characteristics of patients undergoing partial maxillectomy at the National Hospital of Odonto-stomatology

Abstract

This study described the clinical characteristics of 24 patients with maxillary bone lesions, both benign and malignant. The mean age of the patients was 45.5 ± 15.14 years old, with most patients were within 30–60-year old. The male-to-female ratio was approximately equal. Most patients were freelance workers. Patients with malignant lesions tended to be older than those with benign lesions. The majority of patients hospitalized due to functional symptoms had lesion sizes smaller than 5 cm. In contrast, among patients admitted because of functional and esthetic impairment, lesions measuring ≥ 5 cm were predominant, and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant association was found between lesion size and the benign or malignant nature of the lesions (p > 0.05).
