Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to assess the current status of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding oral health among caregivers of 4-year-old children attending selected preschools in Hanoi. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 296 parents/caregivers whose children were enrolled in Yen Vien Town Preschool, Anh Duong Preschool (Phu Dong Commune), and 10-10 Preschool (Tuong Mai Ward), Hanoi. The results showed that 49.0% of caregivers had correct knowledge, 73.6% had positive attitudes, and 25.0% had correct practices of dental health care. Notably, 93.6% of respondents correctly recognized the importance of primary dentition to children’s overall health, and 72.6% understood its influence on the development of permanent teeth. Regarding oral care practices, 67.9% of caregivers reported occasionally taking their children for routine dental check-ups, 36.1% directly assisted their children with toothbrushing, and only 5.1% utilized dental floss for interdental cleaning. In conclusion, while the majority of caregivers demonstrated a correct understanding of the importance of primary dentition to children's health, their actual attitudes and practices remained suboptimal.
