Sarcopenia characteristics diagnosed by SARC-CalF tool in postmenopause osteoporosis women at Hanoi Medical University hospital

Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 211 patients diagnosed with primary osteoporosis according to AACE 2020 criteria, including both inpatient and outpatient at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from 02/ 2026 to 05/ 2026. The prevalence of individuals at risk of Sarcopenia diagnosed by SARC-CalF tool in postmenopause osteoporosis women was 71.1%. The mean SARC-CalF score in the study was relatively high, at 12.5 ± 4.4 points. The risk of Sarcopenia was significantly higher among patients of advanced age, with higher parity, low physical activity levels, poor nutritional status, increased risk of falls, impaired activities of daily living, and severe osteoporosis; among these low physical activity, increased risk of falls, and severe osteoporosis were identified as independent factors associated with Sarcopenia. Conclusion: The prevalence of individuals at risk of Sarcopenia diagnosed by SARC-CalF tool in postmenopausal osteoporosis women is relatively prominent and was associated with multiple clinical and functional risk factors. Early screening for Sarcopenia in this population should be strengthened in order to enable timely interventions.
