Treatment compliance among schizophrenia patients in Ung Hoa district, Hanoi

Abstract
The study assessed treatment adherence rate of schizophrenic patients in outpatient treatment
in Ung Hoa district, Hanoi. From July 2020 to July 2021, 230 outpatients with schizophrenia were
surveyed about their medication use, refills, and reasons of non-adherence. More than half (56.6%)
of patients were men, 56.6% were between 31 and 50 years old, 33.0% had education level of lower
secondary school, 29.6% completed high school, and 10.9% did not know how to read and write.
The majority (57.4%) of the patients were farmers, and 57.8% were married. The results showed
that 39.6% of patients had good adherence, 20.4% had moderate adherence, and 40.0% had poor
adherence. In conclusion, the treatment adherence of schizophrenic patients in Ung Hoa district is low
