Abstract

A study with workers exposed to silica dust in Hai Duong and Thai Nguyen from 2019 to 2020 were divided into 205 cases with a confirmed diagnosis of silicosis and 200 controls. The study found a significant association between smoking and the risk of silicosis (OR=1.84; 95%CI:1.24-2.75, p = 0.003). In addition, there was a statistically significant difference with p=0.026 of blood TNF-α levels between the disease group (21.5 pg/mL) and the control group (13.7 pg/mL). The study used the ROC curve to determine the cut-off point (0.505 pg/mL) and calculate the sensitivity and specificity of the TNF-α test in the diagnosis of this disease. However, there was no statistically significant association between age group, gender, worker seniority, genotype, allele TNF-α and the risk of developing silicosis.
