Abstract

o evaluate the emergency outcomes from intervention of cardiac arrest in children at the Vietnam National Childre's Hospital from June 2018 to June 2019. This is a cross-sectional study on 70 children with cardiac arrest. The initial emergency outcomes are as followed: return of spontaneous circulation was achieved in 64.3%, the death rate was 35.7%. Return of spontaneous circulation was highest in the intensive care unit departments (84.1%), followed by other clinical departments (75%) and emergency departments (66.7%), p < 0.05. Return to spontaneous circulation rate after 24 hours of admission was higher when compared with admission to the hospital within 24 hours (83.7% vs 59.3%, p < 0.05). The final emergency outcomes: the death rate was 44.3%, withdraw treatment was 30% and 25.7% survived to hospital discharge. Pediatric Basic Life Support program should be updated regularly for doctors for early recognition and “efficiency” emergency treatment for cardiac arrest in children.
