Abstract

Hematoma is most frequent and permanent blindness is the most serious complications of blepharoplasty. This article reported a 22-years-old female patient suffered from blindness in the left eye  due to hematoma after a double eyelid surgery. She was found with coagulopathy and lower extremity venous malformation in the past. Due to the severe coagulation disorder, it was impossible to perform surgery to remove the hematoma, to reduce pressure and to stop hemorrhage. Medical treatment was promoted with the treatment principles as to control the hemorrhage and reduce the orbital pressure. After 11 months , her right eye completely recoverd while her left eye has permanent vision loss. Causes of bleeding, hematoma, mechanism of vision loss, prevention and treatment of this complication were discussed by the author. The article confirms that high pressure of orbital resulted from hematoma caused blindness.
