Abstract

Opioid addiction patients are at high risk of mental disorders which result in risk of opioid relapse, thereby reducing the effectiveness of methadone treatment and the quality of life. This study was conducted with the aim of describing the state of mental disorder of outpatients treated with methadone in Hanoi. 912 Opioid addiction patients treated at 5 methadone centers in Hanoi were selected for the study. Sleep disturbance was quite common at 16.8%. Other psychiatric disorders at a lesser proportion are stress related disorders 14,5%, psychosis 4,1%, cognitive disorders 11,2% and depressive disorders 8,7%. Thus, mental disorders in opioid addiction patients are common, and need to be assessed regularly during the course of treatment.
