The pattern of diseases and treatment outcomes of elderly inpatient at the Traditional Medicine Department, Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital, 2022

Abstract
The research was conducted on 620 in-patients admitted to the Traditional Medicine Department at Vietnam-Soviet friendship hospital in 2022. The majority of in-patients were older adults, resulting in the distinct pattern of diseases from other traditional medicine departments of other hospitals. Research outcomes revealed a multimorbidity model, with an average of 2.72 ± 0.92 comorbidities per patient. Musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases were predominant, representing 48.2%, with back pain being the most common condition (21.5%). Neurological disorders ranked second, comprising 19.7%. Integrated treatment approaches combining modern medicine and traditional medicine were utilized in 82.2% of cases. Drug-based treatment in modern medicine were the most frequently employed (91.0%), while a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods in traditional medicine was the most common approach (91.1%). Regarding treatment outcomes, 95.5% patients showed improvement.
