Experimental evaluation of acute and subchronic toxicity of Hoat huyet Nhat Nhat

Abstract
Hoat Huyet Nhat Nhat tablets contain the extract from a mixture of medicinal herbs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the acute and subchronic toxicity of Hoat Huyet Nhat Nhat tablets in experimental animals. Swiss mice were given orally increasing doses to determine the dosage which would induced 100% and 0% mouse mortality, thereby determining acute toxicity. Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: normal control group, 1.92 tablets/kg/day-treated group and 5.76 tablets/kg/day-treated group to determine subchronic toxicity after 30 days of treatment by evaluating the rats’ weight, general conditions, hematological, biochemical parameters, and liver and kidney microscopic examinations. The study results showed that the maximum tolerated dose of 75 tablets/kg (50,400mg herbal mixture extract) did not cause mortality or any sign of acute toxicity in mice; two doses of 1.92 tablets/kg/day (1,290mg herbal mixture extract) and 5.76 tablets/kg/day (3,870mg herbal mixture extract) for 30 days did not affect the research indices in rats. Thus, Hoat Huyet Nhat Nhat tablets do not cause acute toxicity and subchronic toxicity in experimental animals.
