Abstract

This study aimed to assess the participation and performance of the hematology External Quality Assessment (EQA) program conducted in 31 provinces from Hue northward during 2022–2024. A retrospective descriptive design was used, based on data from the hematology EQA program organized by the Center for External Quality Assurance in Medical Laboratory – Hanoi Medical University. Participating analyzers were evaluated by test parameters including RBC, WBC, PLT, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, and MCHC using SDI (Standard Deviation Index) and Target Score (TS). The number of analyzers increased from 832 in 2022 to 987 in 2024, though the regional average percentage of acceptable results showed a slight decrease over time. Provinces such as Hanoi, Thai Binh, and Quang Ninh maintained consistently high performance, while several mountainous areas reported unstable or declining results. MCV was the most stable parameter with an average pass rate of 95.45%, whereas PLT and RBC showed lower performance (85.0% and 88.5%). Over 199 analyzer models were used, with the 25 most common models accounting for about 80% of the total participation. The research findings provide practical evidence to support the development of improvement plans, training, and technical supervision tailored to local conditions, thereby contributing to the sustainable enhancement of laboratory testing quality.
