Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess sleep quality using the PSQI scale and to examine related factors among patients with hepatitis B treated at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in 2025.  This cross-sectional study was conducted on 125 patients receiving inpatient and outpatient care at the Outpatient Department and the Department of Gastroenterology, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, from July  to September 2025. The results showed that 56% of patients had poor sleep quality. This proportion was significantly higher in patients over 40 years old (p < 0.05). In univariate analysis, inpatients had a higher prevalence of sleep disturbance compared to outpatients, but this association was no longer significant in multivariate analysis. Other factors, including gender, occupation, place of residence, disease duration, number of acute episodes, and use of health insurance, were not associated with sleep quality. These findings highlight the need to strengthen screening for sleep disorders in patients with hepatitis B, particularly in older individuals and inpatients, as well as to incorporate psychological support, stress management, and anxiety reduction strategies to improve sleep quality and overall quality of life.
