Nutritional status and diet habits of elderly inpatients with type 2 diabetes at the National Hospital of Endocrinology

Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted on 209 type 2 diabetes patients aged 60 years and older, hospitalized at the National Hospital of Endocrinology. The purpose of the study was to describe their nutritional status and diet habits. The results showed that the average height and weight of the study subjects were 158.1 ± 9.86cm and 57.93 ± 9.73kg, respectively, the average BMI was 23.53 ± 8.55kg/m2. BMI classification according to IDI & WPRO: the rate of overweight and obesity was 47.37%; chronic energy deficiency (CED) was 4.78%. Females had higher high waist circumference (92.0%) than of males (46.9%), (p < 0.05). High waist-to-hip ratio was 85.17%. The rate of malnutrition, as measured by arm circumference, was higher in female (30.1%) than in male (19.8%). 32.54% had 3 meals/day, 40.67% had 4 meals/day; 95.22% had breakfast every day; 12.5 % of males had night eating twice higher than female (5.3%). The majority of the respondents maintained fixed meal times (85.2%) and moderate levels of eating (78.5%), more than half had a slow eating time of > 30 minutes (55.5%).
