Prenatal Diagnostic Outcomes of Cases with Increased Nuchal Translucency at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital

Abstract
This retrospective study aimed to describe the prenatal diagnostic outcomes of fetuses with increased nuchal translucency (NT). The study was conducted on medical records of pregnant women who underwent ultrasound between 11 and 13 weeks + 6 days of gestation (crown-rump length 45 - 84mm) with NT ≥ 3mm at the Prenatal Diagnostic Center - Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from January 2023 to December 2024. The mean maternal age was 29.57 ± 4.89 years, and there was no statistically significant association between maternal age and NT thickness. Among the cases, 41% had NT between 3.5 - 4.4mm, and 3.5% had NT ≥ 6.5mm. Amniocentesis was mainly performed at 16 - 20 weeks of gestation. The rate of chromosomal abnormalities increased with NT thickness, reaching the highest in the group with NT ≥ 6.5mm. Fetuses with NT ≥ 4.0mm had a significantly higher rate of structural abnormalities on ultrasound compared to those with NT < 4.0mm (p = 0.003). Increased NT is an early warning sign that requires detailed morphological follow-up and timely genetic diagnosis.
