Radiation-associated angiosarcoma of the breast: A case report and review of the literature
Main Article Content
Abstract
Angiosarcoma of the breast is a rare malignant tumor originating from vascular endothelial cells. It can occur either as a primary neoplasm or as a secondary malignancy following breast cancer treatment. Among these, radiation-associated angiosarcoma (RAA) is an uncommon but highly aggressive complication with a poor prognosis. We report a typical case of RAA in a 72-year-old female patient who developed the disease several years after undergoing breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy for breast cancer. The initial skin lesions were easily mistaken for post-radiation changes; however, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings confirmed the diagnosis of angiosarcoma. This case highlights the importance of early recognition of abnormal skin lesions and timely biopsy to achieve accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment planning.
