Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the midterm outcomes of aortic surgical valvuloplasty for 29 children with critical aortic valve stenosis from August 2018 to January 2024. The median age and the median weight of patients were 1.2 years old (IQR: 0.4 - 3.3 years) and 9.1kg (IQR: 5.2 - 15.2kg), respectively, with 3 neonates. 22 patients (76%) had severe aortic valve stenosis, and 7 (24%) had moderate aortic valve stenosis. 25 patients (86.2%) underwent aortic surgical valvuloplasty, and 4 patients underwent Ross-Konno procedure. The median of aortic cross-clamp time was 57 minutes (IQR: 36 - 90.5 minutes), and the median bypass time was 99 minutes (IQR: 66.5 - 133 minutes). In-hospital mortality was 2 patients (6.9%), and late mortality was 2 patients. The freedom from composite endpoint of death and reintervention during 1 year and 5 years follow-up period was 93.1% (95%CI: 84.3% - 100%), 84.4% (95%CI: 71.2 - 100%), respectively. Aortic surgical valvuloplasty for critical aortic valve stenosis provided good midterm outcomes at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. However, longer follow-up times are needed, and a multicenter study is essential.
