Candida Septic Arthritis of the Knee: A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Fungal arthritis is a rare condition that can occur in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients, with the potential to cause severe complications if not promptly diagnosed and treated. The disease presents significant challenges in diagnosis and management due to its rarity, lack of characteristic clinical features, and difficulty in isolating and identifying the causative pathogen. Current research on its pathophysiology and treatment strategies remains limited, resulting in few evidence-based therapeutic options. Fungal arthritis typically manifests as monoarthritis or oligoarthritis, most commonly affecting the knee joint. Diagnosis usually relies on pathogen identification through laboratory analysis, synovial fluid culture, and synovial membrane examination. Management generally involves a combination of medical therapy with antifungal agents and surgical intervention when indicated. We would like to report a case of Candida-induced knee arthritis managed at the Department of Rheumatology - Hanoi Medical University Hospital.
