The association between frailty and osteoporosis in elderly women
Main Article Content
Abstract
This cross-sectional study included 294 older women attending the Rheumatology and Geriatrics outpatient clinics at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City from August 2024 to July 2025, aiming to examine the association between osteoporosis and frailty. The findings demonstrated that osteoporosis was independently associated with frailty (OR = 2.33; p = 0.048). Other factors showing independent associations with frailty included age at menopause (OR = 0.87; p = 0.002), IADL dependency (OR = 9.59; p < 0.001), and calf circumference (OR = 0.82; p = 0.018). In conclusion, among older women, osteoporosis, menopausal age, IADL dependency, and reduced calf circumference are significantly associated with frailty.
