Relationship of left atrial strain and early onset of atrial fibrillation post coronary artery bypass - grafting
Main Article Content
Abstract
Atrial fibrillation is a common complication after coronary artery bypass grafting, associated with increased healthcare needs and mortality. The study was conducted to examine left atrial strain by echocardiography in patients before coronary artery bypass grafting and to describe the relationship between left atrial strain and early onset of atrial fibrillation after CABG in this group. The results showed that left atrial strain decreased across all three phases of left atrial activity, with average values being: reservoir 25.5 ± 12 (%), booster pump 13.7 ± 7.9 (%), conduction 11.4 ± 7.1 (%). Additionally, left atrial strain tended to be lower in patients with early postoperative atrial fibrillation, although no statistically significant association was found in this small-sample study. The corresponding values were: reservoir 22.6 ± 15.5 (%), with 26 ± 11.8 (%), booster pump 12.5 ± 12.4 (%), with 13.9 ± 7.4 (%), conduction 10.2 ± 5.2 (%), with 11.6 ± 7.5 (%).
