Morbility and mortality of neonates at the neonatal department of Hanoi Children's Hospital, 2024 - 2025

Abstract
The pattern of morbidity and mortality in a population objectively reflects the health situation as well as the economic, social, and cultural development of each country. We conducted a study on 1163 inpatient admissions of newborns treated at the Neonatal department of Hanoi Children's Hospital from October 2024 to October 2025. Full-term newborns accounted for the majority of the study (76.7%). 60% were male infants compared to 40% of female infants. The most common diseases in newborns were neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (32.1%), neonatal jaundice (18%), and neonatal infection (14.9%). Premature infants had a higher incidence of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, jaundice, and neonatal infection compared to the full-term group. The rate of patient transfers was low, frequently due to with cardiovascular diseases and pulmonary hypertension. The most common cause of death in extremely premature infants was hospital-acquired infection.
