Abstract

Palliative care plays an important role in the comprehensive care of patients with cancer, aiming to alleviate suffering and improve the quality of life throughout the course of the disease. In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has issued guidelines on palliative care for patients with cancer, providing direction for holistic care practice and emphasizing the role of nursing care. This article aims to analyze and compare Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory with the Ministry of Health’s palliative care guidelines for patients with cancer in Vietnam, thereby clarifying the relevance and potential integration of this theory into nursing practice. A narrative review and document analysis were conducted, focusing on literature related to Comfort Theory, national palliative care guidelines, and relevant international recommendations; the contents were compared across major domains of care. The findings indicate that Comfort Theory is consistent with the orientation of palliative care in Vietnam and may support nurses in systematizing care activities, contributing to improved quality of care and offering prospects for application in nursing education and research.
