Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the distribution of facial shapes and to investigate the relationship between facial shapes with maxillary central incisor and dental arch forms. An analytical cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 80 Vietnamese students (40 males and 40 females) aged 18 – 25 years old. Participants underwent clinical screening followed by intraoral scanning and facial scanning. Digital dental models and three-dimensional facial scan datasets were obtained and subjected to measure and analysis. Facial shape, maxillary central incisor form, and dental arch form were categorized into three geometric types: square, oval, and triangular. The oval facial type was highest within the study population (75%), triangular face was lowest (6.25%). No statistically significant difference in facial shape distribution was observed between genders. The concordance rate among the three morphological parameters (facial shape, maxillary central incisor form, and dental arch form) was 25% (oval shape: 23.75% and square shape: 1.25%).
