Preliminary evaluation of penile reconstruction using plaque incision and a homologous vena cava graft for the treatment of peyronie’s disease
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the preliminary outcomes of plaque incision and penile reconstruction using a homologous vena cava graft in the treatment of Peyronie’s disease at Viet Duc University Hospital. A clinical interventional study with preoperative and postoperative assessment was conducted on 15 patients undergoing surgery from October 2022 to February 2024. The mean age was 58.07 ± 9.9 years old. Most patients presented with leftward and/or dorsal curvature (86.67%). The mean preoperative curvature was 51.67 ± 6.73°, which decreased to 6,67 ± 4,08° at 6 months postoperatively. The mean operative time was 106.87 ± 12.2 minutes. The average follow-up duration was 19.87 ± 4.36 months. The IIEF-5 score at 6 months postoperatively was 19.2 ± 1.27. No graft rejection occured. Preliminary results suggest that this technique is feasible, provides marked improvement in penile curvature with acceptable safety. However, because of the small sample size and the novel graft material, further studies with larger sample sizes, longer follow-up, and more appropriate study designs are needed to fully evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of this approach.
