Effects of multi-planar trunk training combined with dual-task exercises on reducing weight-bearing asymmetry in patients with ischemic stroke

Abstract
This study evaluated the Percentage Weight Bearing Asymmetry (PWBA) and the Percentage Weight on Affected Leg (PWA). The study was conducted on 66 ischemic stroke patients, divided into an experimental group (N1, n = 32) and a control group (N2, n = 34). Patients underwent 8 weeks of training under two different programs, with assessments conducted at baseline (L0), 2 weeks (L1), 1 month (L2), and 2 months (L3). Group N1 followed the multi-planar trunk training program combined with dual-task exercises, group N2 followed the Vietnamese Health Ministry rehabilitation therapy program. While both groups showed improvements in PWBA, PWA, and Functional Ambulation Categories (FAC) at L2 and L3, the N1 group exhibited significantly greater progress. The results indicate that ischemic stroke patients experience significant weight-bearing asymmetry and a reduced capacity for weight loading on the affected side. The multi-planar trunk training program combined with dual-task exercises assigned to the N1 experimental group demonstrated clear efficacy in improving PWBA, PWA, and FAC scores.
