Abstract
Cervical scapulohumeral syndrome is common in patients with cervical spondylosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the analgesic and cervical spine’s range of motion improvement by treatment with electro- acupuncture combined with paraffin therapy on patients with cervical scapulohumeral syndrome. This study was designed as a controlled interventional clinical trial, comparing before and after treatment. 60 patients diagnosed with cervical scapulohumeral syndrome were divided into 2 groups, according to the methods of homogenous pairing of age, gender, cervical spine’s range of motion and VAS (Visual Analog Scale) pain score. The study group was treated with electro-acupuncture combined with paraffin and the control group was treated with electro-acupuncture; the regimen was once a day during 15 days. The results showed that both groups recorded an improvement of VAS pain score and cervical spine’s range of motion (p < 0.05), the study group improved greater than the control group (p < 0.05). No side effect has been recorded during the treatment.
