Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the acute toxicity on Swiss mice according to the World Health Organization Guidance, LD50 was determined by Litchfield-Wilcoxon method. The sub-chronic toxicity of An Phu Khang Plus were studied on Wistar rats, in which rats were divided in 3 groups: no treatment; treated with An Phu Khang Plus at the daily dose of of 0.745 g/kg per day and 2.235 g/kg per day, respectively, for 4 weeks. After administration, rats were sacrificed to collect samples for blood analysis before and at 2.4 weeks after treatment. Histopathological of liver and kidney were only observed at the end of treatment. The results show no symptom of acute toxicity up to a maximum dose 38.8 g/kg, LD50 of APKP has not been determined. The APKP at two doses of 0.745 g/kg per day and 2.235 g/kg per day had no effect on general conditions, hematopoietic function. No change in the liver and kidney functions, however, histopathological changes were seen in the liver at the high dose. A subchronic study of other doses consumed should be further carried out to assess the effects of APKP on liver histology.
