Main Article Content
Abstract
This cross-sectional study described the clinical, paraclinical and treatment results of post-neurosurgical meningitis in 46 patients with meningitis. The most common clinical symptoms were fever (100%) and impaired consciousness (54.3%). All patients had CSF changes, with median white blood cell count of 658 cell/mm3 (IQR, 189 - 2151 cells/mm3), median protein concentration of 1.91 g/L (IQR, 1.17 - 3.29 g/L), mean glucose level of 3.53 ± 1.44 mmol/L, and the average lactate concentration of 6.73 ± 3.19 mmol/L. The average white blood cell count was 13.29 ± 4.08 G/L, median blood procalcitonine was 0.28 ng/mL (IQR, 0.15 - 1.17 ng/mL), and median CRP was 8.09 mg/dL (IQR, 5.10 - 16.61 mg/dL). Microbial etiology was identified in 9 (19.6%) patients, among which carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii was the most common pathogen (3 patients), followed by Staphylococcus aureus (2 patients). Regarding overall treatment results, 7 (15.2%) patients died and the average duration of treatment in ICU was 11.96 ± 5.10 days.
