Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of treating acute gallstone cholangitis using a combination of non-surgical treatment and emergency percutaneous biliary drainage in patients at the Emergency Department of Hanoi Medical University Hospital. This is a descriptive, retrospective study of 32 patients with acute gallstone cholangitis who received medical treatment and percutaneous biliary drainage. As a result, 31/32 (96.9%) patients were stable; there was 1 case of severe development which led to death at home. The length of stay in the Emergency and Intensive Care Department was between 2 and 20 days. Left hepatic biliary drainage was performed in 18/32 (65%) of the patients. There were 3/32 (9.4%) patients with complications of biliary tract bleeding and 1 patient had infection of the skin draining site. The study showed that the combination of emergency percutaneous biliary drainage with medical treatment in patients with acute gallstone cholangitis in the Emergency Department had low complication rate and short length of ICU stay.
