25. The pattern of upper respiratory disease in 6 provincial Hospitals in Northern Vietnam from 2017-2021
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study assesses the pattern of pathology of upper respiratory tract infections in the provinces bordering the Gulf of Tonkin. Medical records were reviewed at 6 provincial hospitals: Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa and Quang Ninh. The number of patients hospitalized due to upper respiratory tract infections in the years from 2017 to 2021 were 12,265; 18,832; 19,762; 8,102 and 6,899, respectively; and the number of visits were 81,211; 101,902; 105.764; 21.167 and 19.675 respectively. The number of patients coming to the hospital for examination and hospitalization due to upper respiratory tract infections was highest in 2019 and lowest in 2021. The highest rate of upper respiratory tract infections was in Thanh Hoa (20.5%) and lowest in Ninh Binh (9.2%). Infections commonly occurred in districts and cities of the provinces where industrial parks have been developed without a standard air pollution control system. The most common disease in children under 6 years old was acute otitis media with the rate of 61%. The main chronic diseases were allergic rhinitis, accounting for 13% of total case, and mainly in the age group ≥ 6 - 16 years old (38%) and > 16 - 60 (41%). This study provided the patterns of upper respiratory tract infections to promote better disease prevention.
