27. Endoscopic thoracic surgery for diagnostic the etiology of pleural effusion at Hanoi Medical University

Abstract

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery was done in patients with exudative pleural effusion whose cause has not been diagnosed by other methods at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 47 patients from August 2018 to December 2021. The average age was 51 years. After surgery, the most common cause of exudative pleural effusion was Pulmonary TB (28/46, 61%). Other causes include inflammation and cancer accounted for 25% and 15% respectively. The average surgical time was 61 minutes. The average postoperative pleural drainage time was 3.6 days. Mortality rate is 0%. There was 1 case with complications of pneumothorax after surgery.
