Abstract

The use of patient-specific instruments in total hip replacement surgery has been shown to help improve the accuracy of placement of implant components, thereby reducing complications and increasing the life expectancy of implants. This study evaluated the early results of 14 patients who had the primary unilateral total hip replacement surgery. The patients received computerized tomography (CT) scans before and after surgery to collect parameters for implant. Softwares for templating and 3D printing were used to orient the position of implant components during surgery. All cases had implant sizes matched with their preoperative measurements. The anteversion angle of the acetabulum component and leg length discrepancy were similar between expected and actual (p > 0.05). All the indices of the acetabulum and the stem component on the CT scan were in the safe range. The early clinical results were similar to those of other total hip replacement methods.
