Abstract

To evaluate the efficacy of epidural analgesia in management of postoperative wound pain after major surgical procedures for treatment of lumbar spinal degenerative diseases, we performed a  retrospective study in 61 consecutive  30 (49.2%) of 61 patients did not require any parenteral supplements. Of the remaining 31 patients who required supplementary parenteral analgesia in the first 48 hours, 21 (34.4%) received a single dose and 10 (16.4%) required more than one dose. There were 4 of transient hypotension and 4 cases of sensory dysfunction of lower extremity including 3 patients with lower limb motor deficit.
