Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate early results of aortic valve replacement using Freedom Solo stentless bioprosthesis at the Vietnam National Heart Institute, Bach Mai Hospital. The study included 53 patients with a mean age of 62.8 ± 6.1 years and males accounted for 67.9%. The rate of NYHA III-IV was 22.6%, left ventricular ejection fraction was 60.1 ± 11.9%. The average aortic cross-clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass times were 59.3 minutes and 78.9 minutes, respectively. The postoperative mortality rate was 5.7%. The rate of reoperation was 3.8%. Pneumonia, sepsis, and cerebrovascular accident were the most common early complications, accounting for 5.7% each. The average time of ventilation was 37.1 hours, and the median of length hospital stay was 11.0 days. The results of echocardiography postoperation of 30 days showed that the valve area, as well as the index effective orifice area, increased significantly compared to prior to surgery.
