Abstract

Wandering spleen is a rare condition and defined as the spleen is not in its normal anatomical position due to lack or laxity of suspensory ligaments. Etiological factors are congenital and acquired. Splenic torsion, infraction, and rupture are common complications. A 14-year-old girl patient presented to Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi with intermittent abdominal pain in the left iliac fossa and vomitting for 1 day. Ultrasonography and computed tomography of the abdomen with contrast injection showed wandering splenic torsion. The child underwent emergency laparoscopic splenopexy. Acute wandering splenic torsion is a rare condition with clinical features of acute abdominal pain. Some cases may present with chronic pain or abdominal mass. Radiological studies have an important role in an accurate diagnosis. Surgery for splenopexy or splenectomy depends on the condition of the spleen during surgery. Timely diagnosis and interventions are crucial to prevent complications of wandering spleen.
