5. Results of auricular acupressure therapy combined with PPIs in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study was conducted to evaluate the results of auricular acupressure therapy (using Semen Vasccariae) combined with PPIs in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. The study was designed as a controlled clinical intervention study, comparing patients’ condition before and after treatments. Sixty patients who were diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease with similarity in age, gender, duration of disease, and degree of reflux according to the GERD-Q scale were divided int0 two groups. The study group was treated with auricular acupressure by using Semen Vasccariae combined with oral Lomec (Omeprazol) at 20 mg/day, the control group was administered with Lomec (Omeprazol at 40 mg/day for 30 days. The results showed that in each of both groups, the mean score of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and the mean score of GERD-Q decreased significantly while comparing the before treatment with the after treatment (p < 0.05) and there was no difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). As such we concluded that a low dose of Omeprazole combined with auricular acupressure treatment achieved equivalent improved symptoms as with a higher dose of Omeprazole.
