Abstract

Pain relief for lumbar spine surgery is being updated to improvethe quality of recovery after surgery, especially ultrasound-guided pain relief anesthesia methods, including thoracolumbar interfascial plane block (TLIP block). Research was conducted to evaluate the analgesic effect of TLIP block method in lumbar spine surgery. A controlled-randomized study conducted at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from October 2021 to October 2022 included 67 lumbar spine surgery patients; patients were divided into two groups: control group and TLIP group. Results showed that the TLIP group had higher ANIm during surgery and lower VAS after surgery than the control group at many time-points of the study. The average intraoperative fentanyl consumption in the TLIP group was 298.53 ± 35.86mcg, morphine 12 hours after surgery was 11.03 ± 2.05mg and after 24 hours was 12.79 ± 3.65mg. Data in the control group were 365.15 ± 55.18mcg, 18.12 ± 4.46mg and 20.45 ± 5.83mg, respectively. The rate of postoperative nausea/vomitting was significantly lower in the TLIP group compared to the control group. There were no technical complication in the TLIP group. In totality, TLIP block is an effective analgesic technique with good analgesic effect during and after lumbar spinal surgery.
