Abstract

Leukocyte depletion for pooled platelet components is mandatory for transfusion safety. Influential factors that affect the quality of platelet components are volume, platelet count, leukocyte count, and modification of the time duration between reception and distribution. This is an analysis of 652 pooled units of platelets, produced at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion from 2021 to 2022. The results show that the platelet recovery was 89.55% and the leukocyte removal efficiency was 99.80%. There was a positive correlation between leukocyte counts before and after leukocyte reduction filter (r = 0.199; p < 0.05). The platelet counts before leukocyte reduction was correlated with platelet recovery efficiency (r = 0.218; p < 0.05). Time duration from collection to produce was not affected to platelet recovery efficiency and leukocyte removal efficiency.
