Evaluation of antitussive effects of YHN throat spray solution in experimental animals
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the antitussive effects of YHN throat spray solution on ammonia-induced cough model in Swiss mice. Swiss mice were induced to cough with a 25% ammonia solution at a 0.5 ml/mouse dose. The latency period of coughing, the number of coughs per minute up to the 5th minute, and the percent inhibition of cough frequency were assessed. The results showed that YHN throat spray solution, administered at 100µl per application once daily and 100 µl per application twice daily, prolonged the latency period of cough onset and significantly reduced the number of coughs compared to the control group. The percent inhibition of cough frequency of YHN throat spray solution at 100µl per application once daily and 100µl per application twice daily were respectively 33.22% and 41.96%. Thus, the YHN throat spray solution exhibited antitussive effects in the ammonia-induced cough model in Swiss mice.
