Septic shock at Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital: Outcomes and prognosis factors
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective is to investigate outcomes and prognosis factors in septic shock at Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital. The prospective descriptive study of a case series included 82 patients with septic shock admitted to the Intensive Care Unit from May 2023 to May 2024, with a mean age of 68.6 ± 11.6 years old. At diagnosis, the median lactate level was 4.64 (IQR 2.86 - 7.37) mmol/L, and the median SOFA score was 8.0 (IQR 6.0 - 11.0). The in-hospital mortality rate was 24.4%. Blood lactate levels and SOFA scores gradually decreased during resuscitation in the survival group but showed minimal changes in the non-survival group. Multivariate analysis revealed that age (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.02 - 1.17, p = 0.017), SOFA score at diagnosis (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.09 - 1.96, p = 0.012) and 24-hour lactate clearance (OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.96 - 1.00, p = 0.030) were associated with in-hospital mortality. The mortality rate of patients with septic shock at Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital in 2023 - 2024 is relatively low, with disease severity indices (SOFA score, blood lactate) not particularly high. Age, SOFA score at diagnosis, and 24-hour blood lactate clearance are prognostic factors for mortality in septic shock in multivariate analysis.
